D.O Lo Abarca Terroir
Terroir is the essence of a place reflected in its wine. It is the unique combination of factors such as climate, soil, altitude, orientation, and human intervention that shape the distinctive character of each vine.
More than a technical concept, terroir is the intimate connection between the land and the wine, where the natural environment and tradition merge to express the authentic identity of a region.

At Casa Marin, our terroir is an extraordinary gift from nature, shaped by its proximity to the sea and the unique conditions of Lo Abarca. This coastal corner, once submerged beneath the ocean, is now home to soils rich in granite, limestone, and marine deposits, which gives an unmistakable character to our wines.
With 90% of our vineyards planted on slopes facing different directions, Lo Abarca boasts a unique microclimate. Average temperatures remain below 14°C, with highs rarely exceeding 26°C, even on the warmest summer days. This climate, comparable to that of England but with the radiant Mediterranean sunshine, sets it apart from other nearby valleys such as Leyda and Casablanca, making Lo Abarca a truly unique place for viticulture.
Casa Marin has 37 hectares divided into 57 small blocks, each with its own micro-terroir. These blocks reflect our obsession with detail and are represented on our capsules and corks, highlighting the exclusivity of each bottle. Unlike the flattest vineyards in the world, our slopes and low yields—a mere 3,000 kg per hectare—place us on par with the most prestigious Grand Cru vineyards.
Since 2018, Lo Abarca has been recognized as a Denomination of Origin by the SAG (Chilean Agricultural and Livestock Service), an achievement that distinguishes us as the only winery in Chile with its own DO. This recognition validates our commitment to an exceptional terroir, which allows us to create unparalleled wines, awarded for their quality and character.
