Patrick Schmitt MW, the editor-in-chief has tasted two of our Casa Marín wines. Here are the
scores and tasting notes.
Casa Marin Sauvignon Gris Estero Vineyard, 2019 Vintage: 2019 Region: Lo Abarca, Valle de San Antonio Grape variety: Sauvignon Gris ABV: 14% Closure type: Natural cork Price: £na Tasting: Wow, very expressive open pungent nose bursting with lemon grass and bell pepper, and fresh grapefruit, and a touch of smoky toast, like you might find in an aged Semillon. In the mouth, this is textural, with some beeswax and honey notes, orange blossom, along with lemon grass and pea too, then a touch of fine chalky grip on the finish - phenolics are present, but not bitter. It is slightly oily at the core, and like the nose, there is just a hint of smoke, and a touch of toast. As for the finish, it's long, with a tangy grapefruit character. A fascinating highly expressive fresh wine with depth and texture. Score: 93
Casa Marin Pinot Noir Litoral Vineyard, 2018 Vintage: 2018 Region: Lo Abarca, Valle de San Antonio Grape variety: Pinot Noir ABV: 14.5% Closure type: Natural cork Price: £na Tasting: An open, quite stemmy nose, with tomato leaf, as well as ripe tomato and cherry fruit beneath plus a hint of vanilla and toast. In the mouth this is not leafy, with soft ripe strawberry and sweet tomato fruit, fine chalky mouth coating tannin, and a nice freshness on finish. So, while it's soft at the core, it is structured due to acid and dry tannin. There is just a touch of ripe stem and some floral notes, and hint of oak vanillin. Persistent, fine, with lots of personality, and a touch of warmth on finish. Score: 91+
We are really grateful and happy for this awards.
